Common Locations for Plumbing Leaks
For as long as we have had indoor plumbing, we have had indoor plumbing leaks. No plumbing system is perfect, and over time, wear and tear can create leaks in just about any part of your plumbing system. Certain components and features, however, are more prone to leaks, and these are the spots where we generally start our searches. Leaks in some of these areas can be critical, as they can cause a lot of damage in a very short amount of time, even with a leak that's nothing more than a very slow drip!
We can find and fix leaks in all of the following:
How Electronic Leak Detection Works
Electronic leak detection uses sophisticated electronic equipment to quickly and accurately determine if you have a plumbing leak. Some equipment can even point to where a leak might be, including in locations that are normally hidden from our eyes, such as inside walls, buried underground, or even encased within your home’s foundation slab.
There are several different electronic leak detection tests, but these are a few of the most common:
- Thermal imaging cameras: Thermal imaging cameras can spot abnormal heat signatures. If you have a plumbing leak, a spot that is excessively hot or cold on your walls or under your floor could indicate a leak.
- High-sensitivity sound scanning: Using an ultra-sensitive microphone, our technicians can locate leaks by listening for the gentle sound of dripping water. Alternatively, this method also works by draining your water lines and then pressurizing them with air. These audio scanners can quickly pick up the sound of air leaking and show the location of a leak.
- Pressure testing: Specialized equipment can determine leaks based on fluctuations or loss of pressure in plumbing lines that have been drained and pressurized with air.
At Johns, we take pride in offering advanced and accurate leak detection services. We’re even available to assist with emergencies, including answering our phone 24/7 and being able to come out the same day to help you solve the issue quickly!
